Ok That’s one solid group that you have under your belt, now for some more peculiar shortcuts people often have a hard time remembering:
R for cRop (or Remove)
Q for the spot tool (think Q-tip) which is how Marshall’s oils were applied to photos when retouching was analogue! ( When retouching was a six figure income for some retouchers in Manhattan)
K for the adjustment brush…Ok this one will take a little creativity on your thought process:
think OH K !! Now it’s time for some real fine adjustments ( after getting the overall image set) Ha! (Ok that’s a stretch but it helped me!)
C to Compare one image to another
N to view several images at once akin to laying several photos ( not slides or negatives …that would be more like the hitting G for the Grid mode) on a table to pick which one you are going to work on.
I remember this one as D is for the Develop Module, and before I can DEVELOP anything I have to pick or FILTER which image TO develop….
So, think ND FILTER! ( Neutral Density Filter)
You FILTER the images down to the one you want to DEVELOP!
I may have 5 shots of someone on a motorcycle out of 100 photos of them not on a motorcycle.
So if I want the BEST one of the 5 motorcycle shots and I want to see them and just them…to pick the best one
I hit N with a few images selected ( in this case it would be the 5 images of the person on the motorcycle I want to pick from ) allowing me a better look…and I can better judge the images nice and large on the screen so I can then FILTER out the one I want to Develop….so then it’s D to Develop!
One Last one to give your Lightroom some ROOM to work!
If you want to look at your images using N to view nice and large for comparison.. or you want to work on a photo with as much room as possible, or view all of your images like “slides” in grid mode
You will want to use as much of your screens real estate as possible with nothing you are not using in your way and that is why one of my all time favorite shortcuts is:
Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) Shift, this will push all 4 panels we covered in the Sign Of The Cross trick.. out of your way at once! And the easiest way to remember it is when you want to use all the screen you can, it is: Time to Take CTRL (or Cmd) and SHIFT everything out of your way!
I hope that this will help you to improve your workflow, and give you more time out from behind the computer, freeing you to do… well, whatever it is you like to do!
For a complete list of shortcuts head over to Adobe and you can find even more Lightroom keyboard shortcuts you’ll have to find room in your brain to cram! Good luck! Here is the link: Adobe Lightroom Keyboard Shortcuts
If you have any tips to remember shortcuts you use, I’d love to hear them, as would everyone else! Feel free to share in the comments!
How to Become One With Your Pen, or Stylus
I saw this and I immediately knew I must own one. Now while I’m not one to lust after objects, I do have a soft spot for anything that improves my quality of life, increases productivity, or simply helps facilitate a more natural way of doing something. (more…)
